One player for every disc!!
This player is amazing...I am very happy for my purchase and the reasons for appear below:
Pros:
- Great slim and slick design
- It is multisystem, plays on both PAL/NTSC
- It plays whatever you put in there. Many dvd players
that i tried wouldn't play some of my homebrew dvd titles.
This little machine plays them all!!
- It can be converted easily to multiregion
- The sound is very good even with divx movies
Cons:
- the only cons is the limit on the number of letters
that appear in the menu when you try to watch a divx movie.
The filenames are cut in half.
Since the only cons doesn't create any problem to me i decided to
give 5 stars to this product. Highly recommended and you won't regret it...;)

No more Philips for me
We went through two Philips DVD players already. This one (DVP5140) and another DivX certified DVD player. For those who don't know, DivX certified DVD player lets you play files such as movies, etc, that you normally can play only on a computer.
Both Philips DVD players were great at first. They worked as advertised, played pretty much everything we through at them.
However, both failed after normal usage within six months and a year. They just stopped working altogether. The first one just died all of a sudden. No response whatsoever. The second one stopped reading discs, even DVD movie discs. Note that we got two of these and they each cost around $50 or $60. Neither one lasted for more than a year. We use it maybe at most a couple of hours a day. So if you get these things, they are just very bad quality. You'll be lucky if they work for more than a year for you. I bet you five dollars on it that it will die within a year.
So this will be the end of our relationship with Philips. That is what they say: fool me once, ... fool me twice..., fool me three times...

no remote ...you are SOL
Overall this is a decent player.
It plays all my european dvds for my kids. Loading takes a while.
Just beware that if you misplaced the remote you have problems. If you have kids, you'll realize that kids get into anything and hijack about everything. So once in a while the remote dissappears into mystery land. Called customer care and asked if there is a way to use the front control buttons to navigate through the different selection, but all I got is "I am so sorry.....etc...."
I have no problems with playing any dvds, as said for me the negative things are the load time and no control issue.
